Elon Women’s Lacrosse Phoenix Hosts Owls in Final Home Game Sunday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s lacrosse team looks to finish its inaugural season with a perfect 5-0 record at home with its final home game of the season on Sunday, April 13. The Phoenix plays Atlantic Sun opponent Kennesaw State in Rhodes Stadium on senior day with the opening draw set for 1 p.m.

Looking Back
It will have been two weeks since the Phoenix last played when it takes the field against the Owls on Sunday. Elon fell in its last game at High Point, but won two days prior with a dominating 18-4 victory over Presbyterian on March 28. The maroon and gold is a perfect 4-0 in Rhodes Stadium this season.

Senior Day
Senior captain Emily Bishop will be recognized following the conclusion of Sunday’s game. A native of Ellicott City, Md., Bishop has been an integral member of the Elon lacrosse program. She has seen action in nine of Elon’s games this season, earning the start in four, and has scored three goals on the year.

Kickin’ It With Colie
In support of Elon women’s soccer player Nicole Dennion, who is currently undergoing cancer treatments, the Elon lacrosse players will be wearing shirts during warm-ups of the game Sunday. Dennion, the 2013 Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma earlier this spring. The A-Sun Picture
Only four Atlantic Sun games have been played thus far this season, however, Elon is tied in second with Stetson with a 1-0 record. Reigning league champion Jacksonville leads the league with a 2-0 mark. Howard as yet to play an A-Sun game, while Detroit and Kennesaw State are both 0-2. The remaining four games on Elon’s schedule are all conference match-ups.

Three-Time Player of the Week
On March 31, Rachel Ramirez was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. The freshman goalie is the only player to earn the conference defensive honor multiple times this season. Ramirez also currently leads the nation in ground balls (4.08/game), ranks third in saves (119) and sixth in saves per game (9.92/game).

Looking Ahead
Elon will close out the regular season over the next two weeks with games at Howard, Stetson and Jacksonville prior to the Atlantic Sun Tournament. The Phoenix takes on the Bison of Howard on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
