Guilford Student-Athletes Named to ODAC Sportsmanship Teams

FOREST, Va.- Ten Guilford College students were named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) 2013-14 StellarOne Fall and Winter Sportsmanship Teams in their respective sports, the league announced Thursday. The 10 Quakers recognized were:

  • Senior Andris Goncarvos (Ithaca, N.Y./Lehman Alternative Community School (SUNY Buffalo)) – Men’s Cross Country
  • Sophomore Naomi Madaras (Greencastle, Pa./Westtown School (Macalester)) – Women’s Cross Country & Women’s Indoor Track & Field
  • Junior Jordan Farmer (Advance, N.C./Davie) – Football
  • Senior Michael MacVane (Hampton Falls, N.H. /Winnacunnet) – Men’s Soccer
  • Senior Abby Gove (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth Academy) – Woman’s Soccer
  • Senior Meredith Foscue (Asheboro, N.C./Asheboro ) – Volleyball
  • Sophomore Caitlin Young (Raphine, Va./Rockbridge County) – Swimming
  • Freshman Zach Houston (Hickory, N.C./St. Stephen’s) – Men’s Basketball
  • Senior Kayla Adams (Rural Hall, N.C./North Forsyth) – Women’s Basketball
  • Sophomore Emmanuel Williams (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) – Men’s Indoor Track & Field

“I am pleased the conference recognizes student-athletes for their focus on fair play and sportsmanship,” ODAC Commissioner Brad Bankston said. “The conference prides itself on positive sportsmanship and encouraging student-athletes to lead by example. Each one of the honorees has been selected by the coaches in recognition of their conduct in the arena.”

This marks the fifth year the ODAC has recognized student-athletes for sportsmanship. The league honored 126 athletes on the Fall and Winter Sportsmanship Teams. The announcement was made in conjunction with this week’s observance of NCAA Division III week.
