Brooks Paces Elon Women’s Golf Phoenix on Day One of SoCon Championship

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – On a challenging North Course at the Moss Creek Golf Club, the Elon women’s golf team opened play at the 2014 Southern Conference Championship with a score of 318 to sit fourth among the league’s nine teams following the first round of competition on Sunday.

Emily Brooks led the way for the maroon and gold as she shot a first-round 77 to sit in a tie for seventh out of 45 players. Brooks had one birdie over her first 18 holes, carding a four on the par-five sixth hole.

Two strokes back with a 79 and holding a share of 11th is Sunna Vidisdottir.

After notching an 80 on day one, Katie Partridge sits in a tie for 14th. She posted birdies on both the par-four fourth and par-three fifth holes on Sunday.

Kathryn Buckingham’s mark of 82, which included three birdies, has her sharing the 22nd spot.

Finally, Kelsey Badmaev carded an 83 and is tied for 28th with two rounds to play.

With a one-over 73, Chattanooga’s Emily McLennan holds the individual lead after one round. She leads Samford’s Natalie Mitchell by one stroke and Furman’s Valentina Romero by two shots.

Furman, ranked 85th nationally by Golfstat, leads the field following a round of 305 on Sunday. The Paladins hold a seven-shot edge on both No. 98 Samford and No. 68 Chattanooga after one round.
