SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Looking to claim a Southern Conference series sweep at Wofford, the Elon baseball team found itself in an early hole and could not recover as the Phoenix dropped the finale by a 7-2 margin on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, Elon’s record dipped to 23-13 overall and 9-6 in league play. Wofford is now 20-17, 3-9.

The Terriers scored in each of the first five innings, including a three-run third that saw James Plaisted homer, to build a 7-0 lead before the Phoenix got on the board in the sixth. Elon’s first run came when Chris King drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Quinn Bower from third.

Elon scored its second run in the ninth when Danny Lynch singled home King.
