Elon Baseball Falls in Finale at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Looking to claim a Southern Conference series sweep at Wofford, the Elon baseball team found itself in an early hole and could not recover as the Phoenix dropped the finale by a 7-2 margin on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, Elon’s record dipped to 23-13 overall and 9-6 in league play. Wofford is now 20-17, 3-9.

The Terriers scored in each of the first five innings, including a three-run third that saw James Plaisted homer, to build a 7-0 lead before the Phoenix got on the board in the sixth. Elon’s first run came when Chris King drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Quinn Bower from third.

Elon scored its second run in the ninth when Danny Lynch singled home King.

Dimitri Lettas (1-1) took the loss in just his second start of the year. He gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits in 2.1 innings.

Matthew Milburn (3-4) collected the win, going six innings and allowing just one run on three hits.

Casey Jones collected one of Elon’s four hits to extend his hitting streak to 22 games.

Elon will remain on the road for a Wednesday game at North Carolina. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
