Ragsdale was at Glenn on Friday night and the Bobcats jumped on them early and dominated the game, coming away with the 6 – 1 victory. After Glenn starter, Alec Widmer retired the Tigers in order in the first on three hard hit balls; the Bobcats put two on the board in the bottom of the inning off Ragsdale starter Matt Horkey. Kier Meredith got things started with an infield single and advanced to second on a groundout. Mason Striplin then lined a solid single to the right side to drive in the game’s first run. Striplin moved to second on a passed ball and Widmer helped his own cause with a line drive base hit to right center to drive in the second run.

Glenn added a single run in the second as Brandon Whitaker singled to drive in Kevin Thompson who had doubled and then two more in the third to end Horkey’s night. Kenny Binkley doubled and scored on Thompson’s second hit and Whitaker plated him on his second of three hits on the night.

Ragsdale loaded the bases in the second with one out but left them stranded as they ended up leaving 11 runners on base in the game. They scored their only run in the third after Niko Orfanedes led off with a base hit and advanced to second on a stolen base. Cesar Trejo doubled to left field to pick up the RBI.

The Bobcats wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the sixth as Brandon Bailey beat out a chopper with the bases loaded to score Widmer who had singled.

Widmer picked up the win, going the distance. He had runners on base in every inning but the first, but managed to come up with the big pitch when he needed it to work out of trouble. The Bobcats played errorless ball behind him and helped him out with some nice defensive work. Glenn also hit the ball very well, picking up 14 hits on the night as they moved to 4 – 1 in the Piedmont Triad, ½ game behind league leading Northwest Guilford.

Ragsdale falls to 3 – 3 in the Conference into a tie for third with High Point Central who owns the tie-breaker at this point by virtue of a win over the Tigers.

Guilford County Schools will be on Spring Break beginning on Wednesday and Ragsdale will be participating in a Spring Tournament at historic Fleming Stadium in Wilson, NC next Tuesday and Wednesday, playing against Wilson Hunt, Pinecrest and Rocky Mount. Glenn will travel to East Forsyth on Tuesday at 7:00 PM with a chance to move into a tie for first place with a win.

  1. Thanks Mike. I really thought Ragsdale would get the away game at Glenn monkey off their back with Horkey on the mound and Ragsdale hitting better. Not sure why but winning at Glenn is tough. I heard this morning they hit us pretty good but it sounds like we had runners on base as well. So much for Glenn being down this year. Their coach always seems to get a lot out of his kids.
