College Women’s Tennis Final – Randolph-Macon 9, Guilford 0

ASHLAND, Va. – Host Randolph-Macon College posted a 9-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s tennis win over Guilford College Monday in a match rescheduled twice due to poor early spring weather.

The Yellow Jackets (12-5, 8-2 ODAC) swept the three doubles matches with the top tandem of Angelina Sportelli and Tori McDonald claiming an 8-1 win over the Quakers’ Alison Hewitt and Madison Giles. Perhaps the day’s closest match came at third doubles where Randolph-Macon’s Melissa Tomlin and Molly Jesseman topped Guilford’s Fernanda Gonzalez and Forest Melcher, 8-4.

Randolph-Macon swept all six singles matches, winning seven sets by shutout. Sportelli downed Hewitt, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles and Kelsie Grice topped Giles at second singles, 6-1, 6-0. The Yellow Jackets dropped just five games in the six singles matches.

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers (6-10, 4-7 ODAC) await the announcement of the ODAC Tournament, which begins this weekend.
