Elon Women Gain One Position at SoCon Golf Championship

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – A solid second round performance by the Elon women’s golf team gained the Phoenix one spot in the standings at the 2014 Southern Conference Championship on Monday. After rounds of 318 and 302, the Elon women sit third with a two-day mark of 620.

Kelsey Badmaev bounced back from a first-round 83 with a one-under 71 in Monday’s second round. She had three birdies during her second 18 holes of the tournament as she climbed into a tie for eighth place out of 45 players with a total score of 154. Over two rounds, Badmaev has posted 23 pars.

Also holding a share of eighth is Emily Brooks. Brooks achieved her 154 thanks to back-to-back rounds of 77. On Monday, she posted two birdies as well as one eagle.

With a two-day score of 155 (79-76), Sunna Vidisdottir will begin Tuesday’s final round in a tie for 12th. She recorded her lone birdie of the tournament on Monday by notching a four on the par-five 15th hole. Vidisdottir has made par on 23 of her 36 holes.

Katie Partridge’s 158 (80-78) places her 20th in the individual standings. Partridge has four birdies through two rounds, two each day.

Finally, in a tie for 27th in Kathryn Buckingham who has posted a two-round score of 161 (82-79). Her five total birdies are tied for the third-most in the tournament.

The individual field is led by Chattanooga’s Emily McLennan, who sits at a four-over 148 (73-75) after two rounds.

Furman held off a charge by Chattanooga on day two and continues to lead the nine-team field. The Paladins will begin Tuesday’s final round with a 606, while UTC is just one stroke back.
