Elon’s Jansaker Named SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Coming off a perfect 4-0 week, Frida Jansaker of the Elon University women’s tennis team has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week today, April 14, for all matches played April 6-13.

In singles and doubles competition last week against UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina, the senior went 4-0 while breezing to a 6-0, 6-1 singles win on Senior Day over Western Carolina’s Shannon Bettiol on court No. 2. She also picked up an 8-0 win with doubles partner Maria Camara Ruiz against the Catamounts in the final home match of her career to help the Phoenix sweep Western Carolina, 7-0.

Earlier in the week, Jansaker helped Elon to a crucial victory in the standings on April 10 with a 6-1 victory against UNC Greensboro, as Elon clinched the No. 4 seed in this week’s SoCon Tournament because of the result. In the match, the Kristianstad, Sweden, native earned an 8-3 win on doubles court No. 2 with Camara Ruiz, then picked up a three-set victory (6-0, 4-6, 6-3) on singles court No. 2 against Stephanie Falcon.

Jansaker became the third Elon player to earn the award this season, as Barbora Lazarova won on March 18 and fellow senior Jordan Johnston earned the honor a week later on March 25. Jansaker has also been honored this season as the conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week on February 19.

Elon will take on fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro Thursday, April 17, in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament. The match between the Phoenix and Spartans is set for 1 p.m. at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
