Elon Phoenix Places Fourth at SoCon Womens Golf Championship; Two Earn All-League Honors

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Elon women’s golf squad recorded the program’s best Southern Conference Championship finish since 2009, as the Phoenix placed fourth in this year’s league tournament, which concluded in the rain on Tuesday, April 15 at the Moss Creek Golf Club. Elon finished its three rounds with a total score of 945 (318-302-325).

Two Elon players were recognized with honors from the league following the tournament. Freshman Kelsey Badmaev earned both SoCon All-Freshman Team and All-SoCon accolades after her performance. Also bringing home all-conference distinction was Sunna Vidisdottir.

Badmaev was the top finisher for the maroon and gold. Badmaev finished in a tie for sixth out of 45 players with a three-round mark of 232 (83-71-78). She ranked among the tournament leaders with four birdies and her 34 pars were the second-most by any player in the field.

Three strokes back in a tie for 12th was Vidisdottir. Vidisdottir shot a 235 (79-76-80) over her 54 holes. She tallied 31 pars and three birdies over her three rounds of play.

Emily Brooks’ mark of 238 earned her a share of 16th place. Brooks posted rounds of 77, 77 and 84 and had one of the tournament’s two eagles. She added 28 pars and three birdies.

With a score of 244 (82-79-83), Kathryn Buckingham finished 25th. Her seven birdies were tied for the fifth-most by any player in the field.

Rounding out the Elon participants was Katie Partridge who placed 29th with a three-day score of 247 (80-78-89). She tallied four birdies over the course of three rounds of action.

Chattanooga’s Emily McLennan (222) claimed medalist honors as she defeated Furman’s Taylor Totland by four strokes.

After holding the lead at the end of each of the first two rounds, Furman saw Chattanooga rally to claim its fifth consecutive SoCon Championship. The Lady Mocs shot a 308 on Tuesday to finish at 915, five shots ahead of the Paladins.
