HPU Men’s Golf Finishes Up At Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team finished up the final round at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. on Tuesday. Sophomore Tye McKay shot a low round one-over 73 in the final round and tied with freshman Jack Sides as HPU’s top finisher.

Lamar shot a 12-under 276 in the final round to storm past Elon for the team title with a 54-hole score of 833 (273-284-276). Elon, which led by 11 strokes after yesterday’s two rounds, carded a 291 on Tuesday to finish with a score of 837 (274-272-291). Host Wofford placed finished third, Radford placed fourth and TCU and Appalachian State tied for fifth. High Point finished 15th at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational.

Elon’s John Somers held onto his 36-hole lead for the individual title by shooting a one-over 73 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at 10 under par (206).

McKay improved in each round of the tournament, shooting his best round on Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole score of 224 (76-74-74). Sides matched his second round score with a two-over 74 in the final round to also card a 224 (76-74-74). McKay and Sides tied for 62nd.

Senior LJ Georgetti and sophomore Tommy Dillon both ended the tournament with season-best 54-hole scores. Georgetti ended the tournament at 230 (74-75-81) while Dillon carded a 231 (73-76-82). Freshman Alex Thompson rounded out HPU’s scoring in his first collegiate tournament with a score of 235 (80-74-81).
