College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 16, Lynchburg 15

LYNCHBURG, Va. – E’leyna Garcia scored with 21 seconds left to lift visiting Guilford College to a 16-15 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win at Lynchburg College Wednesday.

Garcia’s fifth goal of the game came off a feed from Lily Colley and capped a 5-1 Guilford run in the final 13:52. Lynchburg’s Bri Slate netted her team-high fifth goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half, which opened a 14-11 Hornets’ lead. Colley started the run at the 13:52 mark and scored again with 3:40 left, which gave the Quakers (10-5, 8-1 ODAC) a 15-14 lead, their first since the first half.

Caroline Kilby netted her fifth goal of the game for Lynchburg (7-8, 6-4 ODAC) with 2:13 remaining, knotting the score at 15-15. The Quakers’ Marina Bailey won the ensuing draw control and Guilford held possession until Colley found a cutting Garcia, who beat Hornets’ goalie Hailey Bossert with a low, hard shot from about three yards out.

Guilford won the following draw, but turned the ball over and Lynchburg moved into the offensive end. A foul on Guilford gave the Hornets one final opportunity, but Laura Meisner’s long shot with 0.5 second left sailed wide as time expired.

Colley scored five goals and two assists for a team-high seven points. Garcia scored five times and Colley’s twin, Becca, totaled four goals and an assist, plus four caused turnovers. Goalie Sammi Milbourn made 10 saves.

Kilby led all scorers with nine points on five goals and four assists. Katherine Francis added two goals and an assist. Guilford unleashed 44 shots on the Hornets and Bossert made 13 saves and three ground balls.
