HPU Women’s Track’s Zautcke Third In 10K On Big South’s First Day

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Sophomore Julia Zautcke made her career debut in the 10,000-meter and finished third in the race on the first day of the Big South Championship on Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C. The Panthers had two other seventh-place finishes on the first day.

Zautcke placed third in the 10,000-meter with a time of 36:59.70. Junior Krista Willard placed seventh in 38:15.05 and sophomore Erika Peoples placed ninth in 38:29.23, missing out on scoring by less than a second. Sophomore Lindsay Siska placed 13th.

Freshman Amanda Gregory had a career-best distance of 5.40 meters (17-8.75) to place seventh in the long jump. She had her best jump on her sixth attempt.

Also on Thursday, freshman Jamie Schnuck placed 14th in the hammer with a career-best throw of 44.38 meters (145-7) while graduate student Lynee Pina placed 17th. Through four events of the heptathlon, sophomore Zoey Miller was ranked ninth and sophomore Sara Katherine Kirkpatrick stood 10th.

The Panthers wrapped up the first day with 10 points, which was good for sixth place after three scored events. Coastal Carolina was leading the meet with 32 points followed by Winthrop (22) and Liberty (21).

The meet resumes on Friday at Winthrop’s Belk Track. The first women’s event is the javelin at 12:30 p.m. HPU’s Christine Rickert is the top-ranked thrower in that event.
