College Softball Finals – Guilford 8–22, Southern Virginia 0–0

BUENA VISTA, Va.—Guilford College completed a sweep of Southern Virginia University Friday evening. The Quakers took game one, 8-0, and the nightcap, 22-0. Game one was started in the top of the fourth inning after it was suspended due to darkness March 20th.

Rebekah Langston finished her one-hitter, giving up only two total base runners for the game while fanning seven batters. Langston only allowed one walk in the final two innings of game one.

Guilford only needed six hits to drive in eight runs thanks to four Southern Virginia errors. Laura Hall and Emily VanHaneghan drove in one RBI a piece, the only two RBI for the Quakers in game one. Hall was the only Quaker with multiple hits, finishing the game 2-for-2.

Quaker bats warmed up in game two as Guilford amassed 19 hits. Marty Wilcox finshed 3-for-3 with a pair of two-run home runs and six RBI. Wilcox hit her first two-run home run as part of Guilford’s five-run second inning and followed up her next at-bat with her second two-run home run during Guilford’s eight run rally in the top of the fourth frame.

Erin Ogden added two RBI on her 1-for-4 game two with a RBI-double to continue Guilford’s rally in the fourth inning.

Caroline Barnette finished 2-for-4 with a lead-off home run in Quakers’ six-run fifth inning. Shelby Helms followed up the Barnette home run with a solo home run of her own, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI, including a RBI-single in the first inning. Rachel Howard finished 4-for-5 with Guilford’s third home run of the fifth inning for her fifth home run of the season.

Langston (9-1) collected her second win of the evening, giving up just five hits while striking out five batters.

The Quakers (26-12, 9-9 ODAC) wrap up their regular season tomorrow afternoon, hosting Randolph College at 3 p.m. for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader.
