Sally Newton, local sports champion and a hero to area gymnists, dead at age 63

*****First saw this today with Jeff Mills at the N&R and more from Jeff below.*****

Sally Newton, a very nice lady and local champion for the cause of gymnastics, has died due to the complications of cancer at age 63…

She was a hero to many and ‘True Champion’ to all….Newton was the moving/driving force in bringing major gymnastics competitions to the Triad and she was the founder of the local Tumblebees gymnastics training program…

Her son Matt Newton was a point guard at the Greensboro Day School for coach Freddy Johnson and I’m not sure what that young man is up to today, but my gut feeling tells me it is some very big and important, because his mom and his coach taught him well and he should be doing great things…

Sally Newton did great things and she helped thousands of kids find a home in the area/field of gymnastics….She is to remembered as a hero to so many kids and adults and a ‘True Champion’ to everyone she met along her way in life….

You hate to lose the good ones, but another local sports legend is gone…RIP and a Tumble of the Day to/for Sally Newton…..
