College Men’s Track & Field Results – Guilford 7th After Day One of ODAC Championships

SALEM, Va. – Guilford College’s Chad Norton placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday. After Friday’s opening day, the Quakers sit in seventh place among nine teams with eight points, all scored by Norton’s runner-up finish.

Norton, who won the 3000 steeplechase in 2013, earned Second Team All-ODAC honors by virtue of his second-place finish. He finished second in the race with a time of nine minutes, 53.1 seconds. Roanoke College’s Harrison Toney won the race in a time of 9:29.9.

Guilford sent two sprinters to the finals of the 100- and 200-meter dashes Friday. Rookie Joe Mitchell placed third in Friday’s 100 preliminaries with a time of 11.25 seconds. Teammate C.J. Green had the seventh-fastest time (11.47) in the 100 and the sixth-best 200 time (22.82). Mitchell turned in a 22.90-seconds time in the 200, which placed seventh. The top-eight times advanced to Saturday’s final.

The Quakers’ Clarence Turpin narrowly missed a top-eight finish in the 400 with a time of 51.34 seconds that placed ninth among 26 runners.

The competition concludes Saturday at Roanoke College’s Bast Track.
