College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Shenandoah 16, Guilford 14 (ot)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Erin Huggins and Miranda Rudacille scored in overtime to lift visiting Shenandoah University to a 16-14 overtime lacrosse win at Guilford College Saturday. The win clinched the second seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.

After falling behind 13-7 with 16:09 left in regulation, the Hornets (11-6, 8-2 ODAC) reeled off seven straight goals. Brittany Arndt scored all of her team-high four goals in the decisive spurt, including the go-ahead goal with 1:40 remaining, which gave Shenandoah a 14-13 edge.

Guilford’s Eleanora Keene scored a free-position goal with 16.4 seconds left in regulation to force the extra stanza.

Both overtime goals were scored with a player advantage as Guilford incurred a yellow card in both periods. Higgins converted a pass from Samantha Sisson 1:51 into the first extra period. Rudicille’s goal came in the second overtime period off an assist from Liz Bereit with 2:05 left. Arndt won two draws in the extra periods and the Hornets effectively controlled possession. Both teams managed two shots in overtime, the Hornets scored on theirs while Guilford had one stopped by goalie Ashley Cross and another blocked.

Rudacille shared team-high scoring honors with Arndt on three goals and one assist. Samantha Donaghy also scored three times, all during a 5-1 Hornets’ run that trimmed a 7-1 Guilford lead down to 8-6 at halftime. Sisson contributed two goals, two assists and a game-best three caused turnovers. Cross enjoyed a strong game in goal with 10 saves and a game-best nine ground balls.

Guilford’s E’leyna Garcia scored a game-high five goals and Keene finished with four. Marina Bailey scored three goals and Lily Colley chipped in with two goals and three assists. Colley moved within four points of setting the school single-season scoring record. Keene scooped up a game-high 11 draw controls and Garcia added seven.

Guilford received the third seed for the ODAC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Lynchburg College Wednesday (4/23) at a time to be determined. The Quakers edged Lynchburg, 16-15, on a last-minute goal April 16.
