Elon Phoenix Gains Two Spots at SoCon Men’s Golf Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. — A second-round 294 moved the Elon men’s golf team two spots up on the leaderboard at the 2014 Southern Conference Championship at the National Golf Club on Monday. The Phoenix will begin Tuesday’s third and final round in eighth place with a score of 610 (316-294).

For the second day in a row, Will DiIanni leads the maroon and gold. After two rounds, he is tied for 11th out of 50 players with a score of 148 (73-75). He has posted six birdies and 21 pars after 36 holes.

Stuart Kaufman used a two-under par round of 70 on Monday to climb into tie for 23rd place. Kaufman’s two-round score sits at 151 (81-70). He has posted 24 pars in two rounds.

Thanks to 23 pars in 36 holes, John Somers holds a share of 26th with one round to play. The senior’s two-round score stands at 152 (78-74).

With a score of 162 (84-78), Troy Beaver is tied for 47th, while Jonathan DiIanni’s 163 (88-75) has him tied for 49th.

J.T. Poston of Western Carolina, ranked 16th in the country, holds an eight-stroke advantage over his nearest two competitors. Poston sits at 10-under par with a 134 (68-66).

With an even-par 576 (294-282), Western Carolina also leads the team field. The Catamounts hold a four-shot edge on 47th-ranked Georgia Southern with one round to play.
