Jack Sides Leads HPU Men’s Golf At Big South Tournament

NINETY SIX, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team is tied for ninth after the first day of the Big South Conference Championship at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C. Freshman Jack Sides led HPU with a 76 in the opening round.

High Point carded a team score of 315, which is tied with Longwood for ninth after the first round. Coastal Carolina leads the field with a three-under 285. Charleston Southern is one stroke behind the Chanticleers with a 286 while Winthrop is three strokes behind the leader. CSU’s David Denlinger is the individual leader after carding a 66 on Monday.

“There were some really good moments on the course today,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “As a team we need to work on our short game and putt better tomorrow.”

Sides posted a four-over 76 to lead the Panthers through the first 18 holes. Sides is tied for 28th. Freshman Alex Thompson is one stroke back of Sides with a 77 on Monday.

Sophomore McKay Tye carded an 80 and sophomore Tommy Dillon posted an 82 on Monday. Junior LJ Georgetti rounded out the scores for High Point with an 88.

High Point will be paired with Longwood for Tuesday’s second round. The Panthers will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
