College Softball News – Guilford’s Wilcox Named ODAC Softball Hitter of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s Marty Wilcox (South Charleston, W. Va./Charleston Catholic (Florida Southern)) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference ‘s (ODAC) Softball Hitter of the Week Monday. The junior becomes the second Quaker so honored this season with the first weekly recognition of her career.

Wilcox hit .800 (8 for 10) in three Quakers’ games last week, all wins, with three home runs and eight runs batted in (RBI). She had two hits, including a double, in Guilford’ 4-0 win over Bridgewater College Apr. 16. The shortstop/outfielder followed with three hits and two RBI in the Quakers’ 6-4 win that earned Guilford’s second softball sweep of the Eagles in school history. She also hit a two-run homer to spot the Quakers to a 2-0 lead. Wilcox concluded her week by going three-for-three with two homers and six RBI in Guilford’s 22-0 road rout of Southern Virginia University April 18.

Wilcox’s week bumped her batting average up to .398, which ranks 14th in the league. Her nine home runs stand second in the conference and second in the ODAC. She leads Guilford with 41 RBI, also the league’s second-highest total. Wilcox ranks fourth in the conference in at bats (123), fourth in total bases (84) and fifth in hits (49).

Coach Dennis Shores’ Quakers (26-12, 9-9 ODAC) host Randolph College later this week in the regular-season finale before opening ODAC Tournament play Thursday (4/24) in Salem, Va.
