Elon Baseball Phoenix Looks to Continue Streak vs. UNC Wilmington

ELON, N.C. — On Tuesday evening, the Elon baseball team will travel to UNC Wilmington looking to sweep the season series from the Seahawks. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

The contest will be carried live on WPCM 95.1 FM and 920 AM as well as on elonphoenix.com.

600 Club
Already Elon’s all-time winningest coach, skipper Mike Kennedy achieved a milestone by winning his 600th career game with a 12-2 victory at Wofford on April 12. Kennedy currently has 602 wins to his credit, all in the maroon and gold.

All-Time in the SoCon
In its 11th season in the SoCon, Elon has posted a .669 (204-101) winning percentage in league games. That ranks as the third-best winning percentage by any of the 22 teams that have ever played baseball in the SoCon.

The Streaker
Junior Casey Jones is currently in the midst of a 26-game hitting streak. During the streak, which began on March 9 at Coastal Carolina, Jones has gone 44-for-93 (.473) with 11 doubles, three triples and two homers. He has also driven in 22 runs in that span. Jones has recorded two or more hits in 16 of the 26 games.

Extra Base Machine
In 27 games this season, junior Tyler McVicar has gone 20-for-67 (.299) at the plate. Of his 20 hits, 14 have gone for extra bases. McVicar has eight doubles, one triple and is tied for the team lead with five homers. So far this year, he has posted a .672 slugging percentage.

Elon vs. Cancer
In its third season participating in a head-shaving event to raise funds for cancer research, the Elon baseball team has raised over $17,500 for The Vs. Cancer Foundation this year. It is the highest total raised by the squad in the three-year span and brings the total raised to over $41,500.
