Elon Phoenix Men’s Golf Wraps Up Play at SoCon Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. – Led by Will DiIanni’s three-round score of 222, the Elon men’s golf team wrapped up the 2014 Southern Conference Championship in ninth place with a tournament mark of 916 (316-294-306).

Will DiIanni finished in a tie for 15th out of 50 players and posted nine birdies and 32 pars over his 54 holes.

John Somers continued to improve his score over his previous round by carding a final round of 73. Somers ended the tournament in a tie for 24th with a 225 (78-74-73). Somers notched 35 pars.

Stuart Kaufman earned a share of 41st position after posting a 233 (81-70-82) during his three rounds of play.

Both Jonathan DiIanni and Troy Beaver ended the event with a 242 to tie for 47th. Jonathan DiIanni carded rounds of 88, 75 and 79, while Beaver posted marks of 87, 78 and 80.

Western Carolina’s J.T. Poston, ranked as high as 13th nationally, earned medalist honors with a score of 206 (68-66-72).

Georgia Southern, rated 47th in the country, rallied to win the team title by one stroke over Chattanooga. The Eagles finished the tournament with an 873.
