HPU Women’s Lacrosse Cruises To 19-5 Win Over Campbell

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back in Monday night’s 19-5 win over Campbell. Senior Mackenzie Carroll led the Panthers with five points on a pair of goals and three assists while sophomore Allie Foard notched four points on a hat trick and an assist.

“I thought the girls did a good job overall tonight,” said HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell. “One of our main focuses coming into the game was to be very agressive in the ride and I thought the girls did a good job of keeping the ball in front of them and causing turnovers. Another one of our focuses has been taking care of the ball and keeping posession and being more selective with our shots, which I thought the girls did a good job on as well.”

HPU moves to 6-0 in conference play with the win and 10-5 on the season. The Panthers have won six games in a row. Campbell falls to 7-8 on the year and 2-5 in Big South play.

The Panthers had 10 different goal scorers in the game led by Foard’s three and senior Alec Perry’s hat trick. Carroll, Kristina Renner, Kendyl Gardner, Emily Pugliese and Christie Dougherty all added two goals while Emily Meier, Tori Dunster and Natalie Devine each scored once.

Gardner started the 8-0 scoring run that allowed the Panthers to run away with the game early scoring off Carroll’s first assist of the day. Following goals by Dougherty and Meier, Carroll accounted for the next three scores with two goals and an assist to Perry to push the score to 6-0 in the first 13 minutes. Renner scored on a free-position shot before Perry notched her second to push HPU’s lead to 8-1.

Campbell’s Taelar Errington stopped the Panthers’ run with 7:33 remaining when she found the back of the net for her 36th score of the season. Foard responded for HPU with her first of the game before the Camels tacked on another to send the game into half with HPU leading 9-2.

The Panthers started the second half on a 3-0 run including scores by Pugliese and Dougherty before Perry scored her third to push HPU’s lead to 12-2. The Camels and Panthers swapped goals with Pugliese picking up her second of the contest off an assist from Foard before Campbell added another to cut the score to 13-4.

Foard then scored her second of the day on a free-position followed by Gardner’s second to give HPU a 15-4 lead. Camels’ attacker Cloey Henchcliffe scored her second of the day with 13:41 remaining to cap CU’s scoring.

Foard followed with her third of the day and sixth of the year before Dunster, Renner and Devine each scored to push HPU to the 19-5 victory.

HPU’s defense held Campbell to just 15-of-22 on clears and caused 14 turnovers. Senior Jasmine Jordan picked up five ground balls and forced two turnovers while senior Patricia Bigelow grabbed four ground balls. SeniorMegan Weisman won six draw controls for the Panthers.

High Point outshot the Camels 32-12 in the contest and held a 23-16 advantage in ground balls. The Panthers won 18 of the 26 draw controls and went a perfect 17-for-17 on clear attempts.

HPU finishes off the regular-season on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Davidson. The Wildcats are the only remaining undefeated team besides High Point in the Big South standings.
