Katie Taber Joins HPU Women’s Soccer Coaching Staff

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University women’s soccer coach Marty Beall announced the addition of Katie Taber to the HPU coaching staff on Tuesday. Taber is a former High Point women’s soccer player who is returning to the Panthers after graduating in 2012.

“I am thrilled that Katie has agreed to come back to her alma mater and work with our women’s soccer program,” Beall said. “She was instrumental in our success as a player and I believe she will have an even bigger impact as a coach. She is passionate about the game and even more passionate about helping people become the best they can be. Our players here at High Point University will benefit greatly from Katie each day, both on and off the field. We have taken a huge step forward as a program by hiring Katie.”

Taber will be responsible for working with the High Point attacking players, helping them develop creative movement off the ball and assisting with their speed of play. She will assist with recruiting by focusing on players who have already committed to the program and helping them develop both on the field and off the field. Taber will also assist with all day-to-day tasks including developing practices, game strategies and film breakdown.

“Marty and Brandi have created an incredible program and I am beyond excited to begin coaching with a staff that I love and respect,” Taber said. “They taught me lessons I needed to succeed, not just on the field but off the field as well. When I graduated I always knew I could come back “home”. This really is a dream come true. One of my former coaches always ended his emails with “for the love of the game”. This quote carried me throughout my entire career as a player and I cannot wait to bring the same love and passion for the game into my coaching career.”

Taber appeared in 89 games during her HPU career and finished with 34 points on 12 goals and 10 assists. She started all 21 games in the midfield as a senior and was named second-team All-Big South after finishing fourth on the team with six points on two goals and two assists. She was a four-time Millis Scholar-Athlete and a four-time member of the Big South Honor Roll.

During her time with the Panthers, Taber helped High Point win two-straight Big South Women’s Soccer Tournament Championships and a Big South Regular Season crown. HPU won the conference tournament in both 2009 and 2010 and went on to play North Carolina and Maryland in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. High Point also won a share of the Big South Regular Season Championship in 2010, finishing with a 6-2-1 mark in conference play. The six Big South wins was a single-season record for the Panthers at the time.

Taber graduated from High Point in May 2012 with a degree in Physical Education.
