Colley & Garcia Set Scoring School & ODAC Marks in Lacrosse Tourney Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. – E’leyna Garcia (Plantation, Fla./Pine Crest Prep) scored seven goals and Lily Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) added six goals and four assists in Guilford College’s 20-9 win over visiting Lynchburg College Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinal.

The win sends third-seeded Guilford (11-6) into a semifinal match with second-seeded Shenandoah University this Saturday (4/26) at 4:00 p.m. Shenandoah gained the two seed by edging the Quakers last Saturday (4/19), 16-14 in overtime, in the teams’ regular-season finale.

Colley had four goals and three assists by halftime, which helped Guilford open a 10-6 lead. Her assist on an Eleanora Keene tally 14:14 before halftime marked her 115th point of the season, which broke Garcia’s school record of 114 set in 2013. Ranked second among NCAA Division III points leaders through games of April 20, Colley now has 121 points, 13 shy of the ODAC record set in 2011. Her four helpers today upped her school-record total to 56 this year.

Garcia scored four times in the second half, including Guilford’s first three of the period. Fighting through close defense and double- and triple-teaming, the senior still found a way to either get open or draw a foul. She converted on all three free-position shots and now has 81 goals this year, second only to the ODAC- and school-record 99 she scored last year. She also scored in her 69th consecutive game, matching the NCAA Division III record set by Franklin & Marshall College’s Jen Pritchard in 2009.
Bri Slate and Caroline Kilby scored free-position goals 30 seconds apart, which brought the sixth-seeded Hornets (7-9) to within 13-9 with 17:12 to play. Lynchburg committed seven of its 20 turnovers in the final 15 minutes, which limited its scoring chances and helped Guilford close the game on a 7-0 run that featured two goals by Colley and two by Demming Carlow.

Keene finished with three goals, a game-high nine draw controls and two caused turnovers for the Quakers. Carlow and Becca Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) both scored twice. Becca Colley caused two turnovers and picked up a game-high four ground balls. Sammi Milbourn made five saves in goal.

Slate paced the Hornets’ offense with two goals and an assist. Kilby and Katherine Francis also tallied twice for Lynchburg. Grace Finnerty caused two turnovers and picked up a club-high three ground balls. Hailey Bossert made a game-best seven saves in goal.
