HPU Men’s Golf Finishes 10th At Big South Championship

NINETY SIX, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team posted its best round of the Big South Tournament with a 306 on Wednesday. Freshman Jack Sides carded a 74 for HPU’s best individual round of the week to lead the Panthers in the final round of the Big South Tournament in The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.

“This was a really good way to finish the season,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “We got some really solid scores today and I am happy to see the guys respond with a great round. Jack Sides had a great tournament as a freshman and I am excited about watching the rest of his career.”

The Panthers finished 10th at the Big South Tournament with a three-day score of 953 (315-332-306). Liberty won the Big South Championship with a 867 (290-293-284). Charleston Southern finished second while Coastal Carolina took third. CCU’s Ben Wheeler took home the individual title with a score of 211 (70-72-69).

Sides capped off the tournament with a two-over 74 on the final day. He finished tied for 22nd with a score of 226 (76-76-74). Freshman Alex Thompson carded a four-over 76 in the final round to finish with a 238 (77-85-76). He was HPU’s second best finisher in just his second collegiate tournament.

Sophomore McKay Tye finished with a score of 241 after carding a 76 on Tuesday. Sophomore Tommy Dillon carded a 257 (82-88-87), two strokes ahead of junior LJ Georgetti with a 259 (88-93-78).
