College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 18, Randolph 8

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Adam Fiore scored five goals and three assists in Guilford College’s 18-8 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over visiting Randolph College in the Quakers’ season finale Saturday.

Fiore had three goals and three assists in a decisive 13-1 Quakers’ run that turned a 4-3 second-quarter deficit into a 16-5 fourth-quarter advantage. After the WildCats’ Shane Soghomonian scored 9:25 before halftime to give Randolph (5-11, 1-8 ODAC) a 4-3 lead, Guilford’s Dylan Haupt netted back-to-back goals to send the hosts into halftime with a 5-4 advantage.

Guilford netted the first four goals of the second half before Randolph’s Colton Wood scored with 3:42 left in the third quarter. The Quakers answered with seven straight scores, including two by Fiore just nine seconds apart, which marks the third-fastest consecutive tallies in school history.

The Quakers (9-6, 3-6 ODAC) had nine different goal scorers, including Haupt, who finished with three goals. His twin, Daniel, also scored twice, as did Chase Rogers and Daniel Hughey. Guilford held a 47-29 edge in shots and picked up 36 ground balls to Randolph’s 25. Manning matched his career high with nine pickups, many of which came off of his career-high 17 face-off wins in 25 chances. Goaltender Thomas Deane made 10 saves in a little over three quarters of work before giving way to Garrison Goth (4 saves) for the final 11:14.

Soghomonian and Wood both scored three times to pace the WildCats’ offense. Defenseman Justin Baker caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Cam Davis had 11 saves in over 51 minutes of time in goal.

Guilford’s nine wins match the program’s most since 2011. Fiore finished the season with 75 points on 33 goals and 42 assists. His 75 points rank fifth in school history and are the most by a Quaker since 1992. His 42 assists stand second all-time at Guilford, trailing only Bill Beck’s record total of 55 in 1990.
