Jah’Kwan Lyles is heading down the stretch with his Senior Class Project and today’s ‘Lyles at Large’ goes into the Athletic Director’s office at Eastern Guilford High School, where Jah’Kwan goes one-on-one with EG Wildcat AD Randall Hackett….We also include an earlier phone interview that came back when ‘Lyles at Large’ was just getting started and he reached out to GreensboroSports.com and we heard and heeded his call for help….

Coach Randall Hackett Interview

How long have you been an Athletic Director and how did you get started?
Since 2006 for 8 years and I was a coach at Eastern first.

What is the hardest part about your job?
The number of hours each day.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
Paperwork, eligibility, supervising coaches/teams, team transportation, field maintenance, scheduling games etc.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
See the growth of student athletics learning life time lessons.

Did you always know you wanted to be an Athletic Director and why? If not then why did you want to be one?
I always wanted to be a coach and was asked to be the Athletic Director and I’m loyal to Eastern Guilford.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Retired and working a part time job enjoying my family farm.

Andy Durham Interview

How long have you been broadcasting and how did you get your start?
25 years, teaching at school, and coaching.

How has your position within the company evolved over the years?
Now doing more broadcasting and much more internet work.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
Writing new features on the website every day along with scores, and posting games of the day/night.

Did you hold internships/volunteer positions? If yes, how did those prepare you to eventually work in sports broadcasting?
No internships and no volunteer positions.

What are 3 to 5 essential and tangible skills necessary to work in the sports media industry?
Creativity, be a good writer, and editing.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
People see my work like it, comment, and compare it to other people, plus they keep coming back more.

What advice would you give to aspiring sports/entertainment business professionals who want to work in the sports broadcasting world?
Make as many contacts as you can…..
