Elon’s Ramirez Earns Women’s Lacrosse Fourth Defensive Player of the Week Honor

MACON, Ga. – For the fourth time this season, Elon women’s lacrosse goalie Rachel Ramirez has been selected as the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today, April 28. She is the only player in the conference to receive a weekly honor more than twice this season.

Ramirez registered a 43.9 save percentage last week, going 1-1 between the pipes and helping Elon clinch the No. 2 seed in the A-Sun Championship its first season of play. The freshman recorded 18 saves in the two games, including eight saves on 14 shots on goal in an 18-6 win at Stetson on Friday. The Lindenhurst, N.Y., native also added six caused turnovers and seven ground balls on the week.

Elon earned the second seed in this weekend’s Atlantic Sun Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will play three-seed Detroit in the semifinals on Friday, May 2, at 3:30 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla. The final will take place on Sunday, May 4, at 1 p.m.
