Senior Night tomorrow night/Tuesday for Southeast Guilford Softball:LeighAnn Alley and Kara Shutt will be honored

Southeast Guilford varsity softball will have Senior Night tomorrow night. This is the last regular season home game for the Lady Falcons and they will be hosting the Grimsley Whirlies. They will be honoring two seniors this year – LeighAnn Alley and Kara Shutt.

Head Coach Shannon Cowart had these words about her two Seniors “Both Kara Shutt and Leighann Alley have done a great job with senior leadership this year. They both encourage the team constantly with positive words.

Kara has done a great job of continuing her dominance in the outfield, making hard plays look easy. Her speed and hard hits keep her in the leadoff role for Southeast. LeighAnn Alley works hard every day making her a strong force to deal with in the field and at the plate. As a coach, I will miss both players and what they give each day to the team.”

LeighAnn Alley played on the jv team for two years and on the varsity for two years. She started her career playing baseball at Alamance Community Center. She was used mostly as a utility player as a Junior and has seen much more playing time as a Senior. She has been playing some right field and currently has a batting average of .300 and has an on-base percentage of .648. She has been a major contributor in several games this season and provided some timely hitting for the Lady Falcons. She plans to attend NC A&T in the Fall and major in Laboratory Animal Science.
LeighAnn is the daughter of Scott and Melinda Alley.

Kara Shutt has been the Lady Falcons center fielder for four years. Kara started her career playing baseball at Pleasant Garden Community Center. She played on the Greensboro Batting Center baseball travel teams and played in Cooperstown as a 10 year old. She has earned All-Conference, All-District and All-state honors for the past three seasons. She was named Metro Conference Player of the Year for the past two seasons. She also was selected to 1st team Greensboro News Record All Area for three seasons and was named the Greensboro News and Record Player of the Year as Sophomore.

As a Sophomore she helped lead the team to the fourth round of the NCHSAA State playoffs and as a Junior to the fifth round.

She is currently batting .529 and has an on base percentage of 1.306. Kara will continue her softball career this fall at Elon University and plans to major is Sports Management. She is the daughter of Danny and Cindy Shutt.

Good luck in the future to these Senior Lady Falcons.
