Elon’s Kirschling Selected NCEL Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Fresh off setting a school and conference record in the high jump on Sunday, April 27, Megan Kirschling of the Elon University women’s track and field team was selected as the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the Southern Conference office on Wednesday, April 30.

Kirschling won the high jump title at the 2014 SoCon Outdoor championship meet on this past Sunday after clearing the bar at a height of 5’10.5”, breaking her own school-record in the event and setting an new league outdoor mark. The West Deptford, N.J., native helped Elon to tie its highest finish ever at the league championships with 131 points.

The mark also helped Kirschling improve to No. 15 on the NCAA Division I East Qualifying performance list for the preliminary round on May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Kirschling currently holds a 3.77 GPA in marketing and becomes the fifth student-athlete at Elon to earn the league’s student-athlete weekly award. Frida Jansaker of women’s tennis, Brian Kowalski of men’s tennis, Sam Coffer of women’s basketball and Nathan Dean of men’s soccer also have been honored during the year.
