Elon Men’s Tennis Advances 3 Spots in ITA National Poll

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s tennis team has moved up three spots to No. 51 in the country in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings, as released today, May 1. Cameron Silverman also moved up three spots to No. 36 nationally in singles.

Though dropping out of the Top 50 after a loss to East Carolina in the regular season finale, Elon got back on track in the Southern Conference Tournament to help get just one spot from the Top 50, winning three straight matches to clinch its second tournament title in program history and the first since 2007.

Just two days after the NCAA team championship draw and the one day after the NCAA singles championship draw, Silverman moved to No. 36 in the country. He will compete in the singles championship after earning the Southern Conference’s automatic bid to the tournament. The singles tournament is set to start May 21 in Athens, Ga., and the senior will learn his opponent the day before the tournament starts.

The team championship is set to start on May 9 at various sites across the country, but Elon’s run in the NCAA Tournament will begin Saturday, May 10, in Durham, N.C. against Tennessee at 9 a.m. The Volunteers are the No. 2 seed in the Durham pod, which is hosted by Duke. The Blue Devils will take on Winthrop following the Elon/Tennessee match with the winners of the two matches playing Sunday with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.
