HPU Women’s Lacrosse To Face Notre Dame In NCAA Tournament

The High Point University women’s lacrosse team will face Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 9, it was announced on Sunday night. The Panthers won their second Big South Tournament title in a row on Sunday, topping Davidson, 11-6.

High Point enters the NCAA Tournament with a 14-5 overall record. In the second season of Big South women’s lacrosse, HPU won its first regular season title with a 7-0 record and backed it up with its second tournament title in a row on Sunday. Senior Alec Perry was named Tournament MVP after scoring a career-high six goals in the title game. Seniors Patricia Bigelow, Cissy Woodyard and Jasmine Jordan joined Perry on the All-Tournament team.

Notre Dame enters the NCAA Tournament with a 9-8 record. The Fighting Irish went 2-5 in ACC play this season. It will be the first matchup between High Point and Notre Dame in women’s lacrosse.

High Point cleaned up the Big South regular-season awards as senior Mackenzie Carroll was named Offensive Player of the Year, Jordan was named Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Lyndsey Boswell was named Coach of the Year. Carroll, Jordan, senior midfielder Sara Kuhlman, Bigelow and junior goalkeeper Julia Burns were named to the All-Big South first team while Perry was named to the second team.

Carroll leads the team with 80 points on 35 goals and 45 assists while Perry leads HPU with 40 goals. Jordan leads HPU in both ground balls (45) and caused turnovers (30). Burns earned all of HPU’s decisions in cage and had a 7.70 goals against average and .447 save percentage.

In four seasons of women’s lacrosse, High Point is 54-22. HPU won the National Lacrosse Conference Tournament in its first season of 2011 and won the NLC regular season in 2012. The Panthers won the inaugural Big South Tournament in 2013.

Last season, HPU faced No. 11 Loyola in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and took an 18-7 loss in Chapel Hill, N.C.
