Elon’s Jansaker Earns SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Month For April

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Frida Jansaker of the Elon University women’s tennis team has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Month for all matches played throughout April. The honor was announced today, May 6, by the league office.

Throughout the course of the month, Jansaker went 8-0 in singles play and 6-2 in doubles action. Three of those singles victories came in the Southern Conference Tournament, where Elon won its first championship of any kind since joining Division I in 2000.

All eight of her singles victories came from the No. 2 spot. Six of those wins were in straight-sets.

In doubles, the senior from Kristianstad, Sweden, was partnered with Maria Camara Ruiz at No. 2 doubles. Though going 1-2 in their first three matches of the month, the duo rebounded to finish with five wins in a row, including two in the semifinals and finals of the SoCon Tournament to clinch what turned out to be critical doubles points in their respective matches. Both of those wins were in tiebreakers.

Jansaker also earned tournament Most Outstanding Player for her efforts in Chattanooga, Tenn. last month. She was selected to the second-team all-SoCon squad during the week leading up to the SoCon championship.

Elon will take on No. 1 Georgia in its NCAA Tournament debut Friday afternoon, May 9, at 4 p.m. in Athens, Ga. Georgia is the top-overall seed in the tournament after winning the SEC Tournament championship over Alabama. Elon fell to the Bulldogs earlier this season on January 24 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament, 4-0.

Should Elon upset Georgia, the Phoenix would take on the winner of Florida State and Arizona on Sunday, May 11.
