College Women’s Lacrosse News – Guilford’s Lamphier and Garcia Earn Top ODAC Honors

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s Sarah Lamphier was named Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year May 5 according to a vote of the league’s head women’s lacrosse coaches. The Quakers’ E’leyna Garcia (Plantation, Fla./Pine Crest Prep) was one of Guilford’s five all-conference selections and also received the league’s Farm Bureau Insurance Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete honor, as selected by the league’s sports information directors.

Garcia was joined by teammates Lily Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells), Summer Fowler (Atlanta, Ga./Decatur), and Eleanora Keene (Wittman, Md./Gunston Day School) on the first team. Guilford’s Becca Colley (Wells, Maine/Wells) captured second-team all-conference honors.

Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Womenâ??s Lacrosse Coach of the Year (2013-2014)

Lamphier wrapped up her second season on the Quakers’ sidelines and guided Guilford to a 12-7 overall record (8-2 ODAC). Seeded third, her team reached the final of the six-team ODAC Tournament for the first time in school history before falling to top-seeded Washington and Lee University, 9-6, May 3. The Quakers’ offense led the league and ranks 10th nationally through games of May 4 with a school-record 426 points. Lamphier’s club also tops the league and is second in NCAA Division III with 18.68 draw controls per contest. Guilford was ranked fifth in the final public NCAA Division III South Atlantic Region Rankings.

Lamphier, a 2006 Skidmore College graduate, has a 27-9 record in two seasons at Guilford. The Quakers have had seven students combine for 12 all-conference commendations in her two years, including Garcia, the Quakers’ first women’s lacrosse All-American and the ODAC’s 2013 Player of the Year. Lamphier and her husband, Jon, are expecting their first child, Jonas, later this month.

Garcia capped a brilliant college career with a league-best 86 goals, Division III’s third-highest figure. She also had 20 assists for 106 points, second only to Lily Colley among league leaders and the nation’s ninth-best total through games of May 4. Garcia set the NCAA Division III record by scoring at least one goal in 70 consecutive games. She earned the ODAC’s Player of the Week Award April 7 after an 11-point week in two Quakers’ wins. Garcia graduates next week with at least seven school records, including career points (364) and goals in a game (10, two times), season (99, 2013) and career (287). Her 287 goals stand second in ODAC history and 11th in NCAA Division III history.

Off the field, Garcia boasts a 3.69 grade point average as a dean’s list psychology major with a sociology minor. She earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America ® honors in 2013 and is a two-time Academic All-ODAC selection. Garcia has volunteered each of her four years at a local YWCA working with teen moms and has been accepted into a doctoral program for child clinical psychology at Howard University.

Lily Colley earned her second straight First Team All-ODAC commendation thanks to a school-record 133 points this year, which leads NCAA Division III through games of May 4. She missed the ODAC season scoring standard by one point and ranks 12th in NCAA Division III history. She netted 73 goals, which ranks 10th in Division III, and collected a school-record 60 assists, the seventh-highest national total. Colley earned three consecutive ODAC Player of the Week awards this year, doubling her career total, and set the school scoring record with 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in a March 15 win at league-rival Randolph-Macon College. She ranks sixth in the league with 51 ground balls through games of May 4.

Colley concludes her three-season career ranked 13th among Division III’s career points-per-game leaders (5.96) and 15th in career assists per contest (2.39). Colley owns at least six school records, including points in a game, assists in a career (129) and assists in a season (60, 2104). She was also tabbed to the 2014 ODAC Women’s Lacrosse All-Tournament team.

Fowler, one of the Quakers’ top defenders, also collected her second straight First Team All-ODAC honor. The sophomore led Guilford’s defense with 19 caused turnovers and 49 ground balls, which both stood second on the team. Her 49 ground balls are the league’s ninth-best total and her 19 caused turnovers stand 22nd. Fowler also had 25 draw controls and 19 caused turnovers from her defensive position. One of her best games was in a March 9 loss to Wittenberg University when she had five ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Keene, a junior midfielder, becomes the Quakers’ first three-time First Team All-ODAC honoree after collecting 64 points on 57 goals and seven assists. She ranks fifth in the league in goals, 10th in points, second in draw controls (118), second in ground balls (61) and ninth in caused turnovers (25). Keene led Guilford in draws, ground balls and caused turnovers. Her 6.21 draw controls per game rank 25th nationally. Keene totaled nine points, 17 draw controls, and six caused turnovers in the Quakers’ three-game ODAC tourney run, which earned All-Tournament laurels. She twice matched her career high with six points in a match, including a career-best six goals versus Wittenberg. Through 54 career games, Keene owns all of Guilford’s draw control records and already stands among the school’s career leaders in points (154, 10th), goals (132, 9th), ground balls (157, 8th) and caused turnovers (73, 3rd).

Becca Colley earned all-league laurels for the second straight season after capturing Third Team All-ODAC honors last year. She finished fourth among Guilford’s scorers in 2014 with a career-high 50 points on 38 goals and 12 assists. Colley was fourth on the team in goals and third in assists. She stood second to Keene with 57 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. Colley ranks fourth among ODAC ground balls leaders and seventh in draw controls with 55, the eighth-best total in school history. The senior midfielder holds Guilford standards for caused turnovers in a career (91) and season (32, 2012). She graduates ranked 14th in school history in points (127), 12th in goals (101), 12th in assists (26th) and third in ground balls (195) and draws (188).
