Elon Baseball Falls in Suspended Game at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. — After falling behind 4-0 on Friday night before rain forced the game to be suspended until Saturday morning, the Elon baseball team dropped game one of a three-game series at Furman by a 14-3 margin.

Furman (20-28, 8-13 SoCon) got on the board with one run in the second on a wild pitch before a two-run homer from Jake Jones made it a 3-0 game in the third. The Paladins tacked on a fourth run in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly.

After play resumed on Saturday, Elon (26-23, 12-13) cut its deficit to 4-3 when Casey Jones belted a three-run homer, his fifth of the season, to right field in the top of the sixth.

The Paladins immediately answered the Phoenix push by scoring five runs in the last of the sixth, two of which came in on Jordan Simpson’s homer to left-center.

Furman then scored two in the seventh and three in the eighth to complete its scoring.

Jones raised his SoCon-leading average to .413 by going 2-for-4 in the contest.

Lucas Bakker (6-3) took the loss as he was charged with four runs (three earned) on five hits in four innings.

Matt Solter (2-5) went five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, to pick up the win for Furman.
