Elon Harrier Duo Break Records at Virginia Track and Field Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Allyson Oram and sophomore Tereza Novotna of the Elon University women’s track and field team broke their own school records in their respective events this weekend, May 9-10, at the Virginia Challenge meet at Lannigan Field.

Competing in one of the top meets and toughest fields in the nation, Oram and Novotna both broke their own school records in the 5,000-meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Freshman Kimberly Johansen also competed this weekend for the maroon and gold.

On Friday, May 9, Novotna broke her previous steeplechase school record after clocking in time of 10:32.05. The Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, native and the Southern Conference champion in the event, broke her previous personal-record of 10:33.40.

During Saturday’s competition, Oram set a new personal-record in the 5,000-meters after finishing with a time of 16:37.72. The time was just about 22 seconds faster than Oram’s previous school-record of 16:59.38.

Johansen competed in the 1,500-meters and ran a time of 4:33.58 in the race, just short of her personal-record of 4:31.95.

A few more members of the Phoenix will compete tomorrow, May 11, at the North Carolina A&T Last Chance Meet in Greensboro, North Carolina. The field events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. while all running events are slated for a noon start.
