College Men’s Golf News – Third-Round Play Suspended at NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Play in today’s third round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships was suspended twice Thursday and is scheduled to resume Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. EDT. Friday’s fourth and final round is scheduled to start immediately following the third round’s completion.

Friday’s start time is contingent on the Grandover Resort’s par-72 East Course being playable at 7:30 a.m. Depending on the severity of storms forecast for Thursday night, the course may need some repairs, which would warrant a later start time.

Tournament organizers moved Thursday’s third round’s start ahead by an hour due to the storms. The day’s first suspension came around 10:00 a.m. with all 27 groups on the course. It lasted approximately four hours before play resumed.

Rain, sometimes quite heavy, continued through the afternoon before the second suspension. Seven groups completed their rounds. The forecast for Greensboro called for nearly two inches of rain Thursday into early Friday morning.

First- and second-round leader Schreiner University (+12) has a two-shot lead over Oglethorpe University (+14). The teams are playing in the same third-round group and have completed 10 holes. Endicott College’s Austin Teal is the clubhouse leader among 81 individuals in the field. He shot his second straight round of two-under-par 70 Thursday for a 54-hole total of 214 (-2). The University of Redlands Bobby Holden is six-under for the tournament through 49 holes.
