Avent on ACC and N.C. State coming to Greenboro for tournament:Will Pack ‘roll out’ Rodon?

N.C. State coach Elliot Avent today on N.C. State’s season….

Avent said the team got off to a tough start and the weather factors early didn’t help matters much….

He said it became hard to dig out of the hole that the team had created for themselves, but that he was proud of the way his Wolfpack team finished and how they came together the last couple of weeks of the season and the all-out effort State made late, to qualify for the ACC Baseball Tournament…..Glad to be back in Greensboro, was the word from the coach….”Glad to be there”….

Avent touched on the fact that North Carolina and N.C. State did not meet in the regular season for the first time since 1918 and it hurt that the two clubs were not able to get in the non-conference game that was scheduled for the Durham Bulls Athletic Park…..Need to face you rival and it will be a little bit strange seeing each other on the field, for the first time this season in the play-in game on Tuesday at 11am….

When it comes to Carlos Rodon there are several options to take into cosideration when you look at how you will pitch him this week at the ACC Tournament….You don’t need to really be pitching him on just three days rest, but Rodon will want to go and he was out there trying to convince the N.C. State pitching coach to let him go on Tuesday, while the Pack was practicing today/Monday….

Rodon will want to take the ball for the Tuesday game, but will that be what is best for him and the team??? State could start someone else and still use Rodon at some point in the game vs. North Carolina….

Carlos Rodon started vs. North Carolina at the College World Series last Summer in Omaha, Nebraska and got that start on limited rest….Like many of your most talented players, Carlos Rodon is a competitor and he will want that ball on Tuesday and N.C. State will have to come up with a way to prove to Rodon why he should not be out there and throwing vs. the Tar Heels and again, N.C. State will have to take a very close at all of their options when it comes to deciding how to use Carlos Rodon this week….

Last year at the CWS he called for the ball when the Pack was set to face the Heels and he is going to want that ball again on Tuesday, and we will have to wait and see if he is going to get it….

As Coach Elliot Avent said today, N.C. State will have to weigh all of their options when it comes to the key decision on how to use Carlos Rodon…

N.C. State vs. North Carolina on Tuesday at 11am, in the first game of the 2014 ACC Baseball Tournament at NewBridge Bank Park….

from today’s ACC Teleconference with the ACC Baseball Coaches, prior to this week’s ACC Baseball Tournament…..

  • matt said,

He will start and probably throw 140 pitches on a couple of days rest.

I love how every time the two teams play there is ever any doubt whether he pitches.

  • not rodon said,

Rodon is not starting…..Peterson is on the bump!
