Billy Strode pitched six scoreless innings and Justin Gonzalez and John Nogowski homered as Florida State snaps a seven-game ACC Tournament losing streak with a 7-1 win over North Carolina.

Atlantic Division champion Florida State entered the ACC Tournament as the No. 2 seed for the seventh time in school history … North Carolina opened Pool B play as the No. 7 seed.

Wednesday’s game marked the 96th meeting between the two teams … Florida State leads the overall series 66-30, including an 9-1 mark in ACC Tournament play.

Florida State’s Mike Martin (1,812) and North Carolina’s Mike Fox (1,266) have combined for 3,078 career wins … Martin is second among active NCAA wins leaders while Fox is seventh.

Justin Gonzalez’s sixth-inning home run was his third of the season, 24th of his career and the second in as many games for the Florida State shortstop, having homered in the regular season finale against Duke … three of Gonzalez’s home runs have come in 11 ACC Tournament games.
Florida State first baseman John Nogowski’s seventh-inning home run was his fifth of the season, the ninth of his career and the first since he went deep in his first two at bats in the first game of a March 6 doubleheader with Notre Dame.

Florida State’s Jameis Winston became the first Heisman Trophy winner to pitch in an ACC Tournament when he hurled a scoreless 14-pitch ninth inning.
