Maryland’s Jake Stinnett struck out 10 batters in eight innings and benefitted from his teammates’ season-high four home runs, as the sixth-seeded Terrapins, making their first ACC Tournament appearance since 2005, beat third-seeded Virginia 7-6.

In defeating the Cavaliers for only the fourth time in the last 31 meetings, Maryland extended the nation’s second-longest win streak to 10 in a row (Canisius 17) and set a school record with its 35th win.

With the win, the Terps are now 18-51 (.261) in ACC Tournament play while the Cavaliers drop to 53-66 (.445).

With Maryland’s victory, the lower-seeded team has won four of the first six ACC Tournament games.

After hitting only 13 home runs during the regular season, Maryland had four in today’s win … Charlie White’s lead-off home run was the second of the season for the Terp center fielder … Lamonte Wade’s two home runs were his first two of the seasons and the second and third of his career … Kevin Martir’s seventh-inning two-run homer was his third of the season.
Derek Fisher’s two-run home run in the second inning was the third of the year for the Virginia left fielder, 17th of his career, and extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Maryland starting pitcher Jake Stinnett, a four-time ACC Pitcher of the Week, struck out 10 and did not walk a batter in his eight innings of work … Stinnett has pitched eight or more innings eight times this season and his 123 strikeouts are one shy of the school record of 124 set by Steve Schmoll in 2003.

Virginia designated hitter Nick Howard was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and raised his average 20 points from .250 to .270.
