With Virginia’s win tonight, Maryland clinched a berth in Sunday’s championship game against either Duke or Georgia Tech … the Terps will be making their first title game appearance since 1976 and second overall.
Nineteen of the last 23 games between Virginia and North Carolina have been decided by three runs or less.

Virginia closer Nick Howard picked up his 18th save of the season and is one save shy of the ACC single season record of 19 set by North Carolina’s Michael Morin in 2012.

Making his 14th start of the year, North Carolina’s Benton Moss struck out eight and allowed only four hits in 6 2/3 innings.

In two ACC Tournament games, Virginia second baseman Branden Cogswell is 5-for-10 with a double and a triple and has raised his season average from .291 to .301.

North Carolina freshman Wood Myers went 4-for-5 and hit the first home run of his college career in the seventh inning … Myers has two or more hits in three of his last seven games and 18 times this season.

Derek Fisher’s eighth-inning RBI single gave Virginia a 3-2 lead and extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Virginia’s Whitt Mayberry made his team-high 26th appearance, relieving starter Brandon Waddell in the seventh inning, and picked up his sixth win in seven decisions.
