Florida State, despite being held without an extra base hit for only the fourth time this season, improved to 43-15 on the season, rallying for five runs in its last two at bats to post a 6-4 win over Virginia.
Florida State’s Mike Martin (65-39) and Virginia’s Chip O’Connor (23-13) are a combined 88-52 (.629) in ACC Tournament games.

Virginia center fielder Brandon Downes’ third-inning two-run home run was his seventh of the year and his first since April 22 … Downs is third on the team with eight multi-RBI game with eight.

Five different Seminoles had RBIs, including first baseman John Nogowski, who drove in his team-high 49th RBI during a decisive four-run seventh-inning.

After going hitless in his first two ACC Tournament games, Virginia’s Daniel Pinero went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles … the Cavalier shortstop has now hit safely in 18 of his last 25 games and over that span has 17 RBIs.

Florida State sophomore closer Jameis Winston picked up his seventh save in as many opportunities on the year striking out two in a scoreless 1 2/3 innings.Tournament
