Fowlkes, Batson Power HiToms Exhibition Win

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – James Fowlkes and Glen Batson each delivered big two-run hits as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms won its first exhibition game of the season against the Kernersville Bulldogs, 7-2.

After a run-scoring fielder’s choice in the bottom of the fourth gave the HiToms a 2-1 lead, James Fowlkes (sophomore, USC Upstate) smacked a two-run homer to left field with a runner on third to extend the HiToms’ lead to three. Three frames later, Glen Batson (freshman, Clemson) roped a bases loaded two-run double down the left field line to make the tally 6-1 before a RBI groundout two batters later led to the final tally.

Starting pitcher Chase Cunningham (junior, Belmont) earned the win throwing six innings of one-run ball allowing just two hits and walking one batter while striking out seven. Reliever Eric Sharff (freshman, Delaware State) fired two shutout innings with four whiffs and Preston Johnson (RS junior, South Carolina) finished off the game pitching the ninth.

The HiToms play their second exhibition game against the Charlotte Crushers on Memorial Day (Monday, May 26), with first pitch coming at 5pm.
