HPU’s Rickert 18th In Javelin At NCAA Preliminary

High Point University sophomore Christine Rickert placed 18th in the javelin at the NCAA Preliminary on Thursday at North Florida’s Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. She threw the javelin a season-best 47.49 meters (155-9).

Rickert’s best throw of the event came on her first attempt. The top 16 advanced to the finals of Thursday’s event. Rickert was the only HPU women’s track athlete competing in the meet.

The top 12 finishers in the women’s javelin on Thursday advanced to the NCAA Final, which will be held June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon, at historic Hayward Field.

It was Rickert’s second appearance in the NCAA Preliminary. At last year’s NCAA Preliminary in Greensboro, N.C., she placed 23rd.

Rickert entered the competition with a season best of 47.26 meters (155-1) in the javelin, which she threw at the VertKlasse Meeting at HPU on April 5. She set the HPU record in the javelin last season with a throw of 47.78 meters (156-9).
