HPU Women’s Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University women’s soccer and head coach Marty Beall announced its schedule for the upcoming 2014 season on Wednesday. The Panthers will face a non-conference schedule that includes games against 2013 double-digit game winners Jacksonville, Western Carolina, Elon, South Carolina and UNC Greensboro.

“I am very excited about the schedule we have put together for next season,” head coach Marty Beall said. “We are playing two exhibition games for the first time, which I think will be very valuable with such a young team returning. We open the season against two quality teams in Florida and continue with difficult games against teams like Western Carolina, Elon and South Carolina. Our non-conference schedule will test us and help prepare us for Big South competition.”

HPU will open the season with two exhibition games, taking on Towson at Vert Stadium on Aug. 11 and Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina on Aug. 16. The Panthers will then officially open their season with two games in Jacksonville, Florida as they face North Florida on Aug. 22 and Jacksonville two days later on Aug. 24.

High Point will then return home for its only two non-conference home games of the season, facing Western Carolina on Aug. 31 and inter-triad rival Elon on Sept. 5. Both schools won 10 or more games in 2013 as WCU finished with 10 wins and Elon finished with 13.

The Panthers return to the road to take on South Carolina on Sept. 7 in Columbia, South Carolina The game is the first of four-straight on the road for HPU to finish the non-conference schedule. Following the match against the Gamecocks, High Point will take on USC Upstate on Sept, 12 and South Carolina State on Sept. 14, both in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and inter-Triad rival UNC Greensboro on Sept. 19 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

High Point begins conference play against Gardner-Webb at home on Sept. 27. The Panthers will then play road games at Winthrop on Oct. 1 and Coastal Carolina on Oct. 4 before returning to Vert Stadium for three-straight home games against Longwood, Liberty and UNC Asheville. HPU will face Longwood on Oct. 8, Liberty on Oct. 11 and UNC Asheville on Oct. 15.

The Panthers will play three of their final four games on the road, starting with back-to-back road games at Radford on Oct. 18 and at Charleston Southern on Oct. 22. HPU’s final home game of the regular season will come against Presbyterian College on Oct. 25 before the season finale at Campbell on Oct. 28.

The first-round of the Big South Women’s Soccer Championship will once again be played at the home sites of the higher seeds this season with the games scheduled to be played on Nov. 1. The winners of the first round will then advance to Asheville, North Carolina for the Big South Semifinals on Nov. 7 with the Big South Championship played two days later on Nov. 9.

High Point returns six starters from 2013 including leading scorer Kelsey Perrell and defenders Alise LeCompte and Amy Burch.
