Former HPU Baseball Player Mark Shorey Named To The Big South All-Decade Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former High Point University baseball player Mark Shorey was named the Big South Conference’s All-Decade Team for 2000-09. The conference is announcing its All-Decade teams in honor of its 30th anniversary.

Shorey was named a Louisville Slugger third-team All-American and Co-Big South Player of the Year as a senior in 2006 after posting one of the single best offensive seasons in High Point baseball history. He led the league with 20 home runs and also topped the Big South in both slugging percentage (.779) and on-base percentage (.504). Shorey also finished second in the conference with a .408 batting average and fourth in RBI with 62.

In four seasons with the Panthers, Shorey played in 144 games with 120 starts and finished with a .335 batting average, 101 RBI and 87 runs scored. The outfielder had 34 career doubles and 26 career home runs. He ranks among the top-10 in the HPU all-time record book in several career offensive categories including home runs, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.

Shorey was the first High Point player in the team’s Div. I era to earn All-American honors and the first to earn Big South Player of the Year honors. He was also just the second HPU player to be named first-team All-Big South.
