Milburn and Dini Play Hero as HiToms Edge Florence

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Matthew Milburn pitched eight innings of one-run ball and Nick Dini drove in the game-winning run Friday as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms beat the Florence RedWolves 2-1.

It was a pitcher’s duel throughout as Matthew Milburn (so., Wofford) went toe-to-toe with RedWolves starter James Phillips through the first five innings. Each team exchanged single runs in the early going. Florence (5-4) struck first with a RBI single from right-fielder Brandon Rawe in the top of the third inning, but the HiToms (4-4) responded in the same fashion in the bottom of the fourth as Matt Orth (rs fr, North Carolina) drove the pitch to center-field to score the game-tying run. Both teams were held at bay until the HiToms struck in the bottom of the eighth. With runners on the corners and one out, Nick Dini (jr., Wagner) capped his 2-for-4 day with the game-winning RBI single to left field.

Milburn (2-0) stood out from the mound tossing eight innings and allowing just one earned run, six hits, and one walk while punching out six. Florence’s Travis Burnette (1-1), who came on in relief, took the loss.

The HiToms continue their five-game home stand at Finch Field on Saturday against the Gastonia Grizzlies. First pitch is at 7:00 P.M.
