Rain Suspends Hi-Toms Slugfest, Will Resume Tomorrow

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms took a 12-5 lead over the Martinsville Mustangs to the bottom of the fourth before weather suspended action.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, High Point-Thomasville’s Jared Allen (jr., Middle Tennessee State) clocked a solo home run to right field to tie the game. Just a frame later, Martinsville retook the lead courtesy of Kyle Nowlin’s two-run single.

In the bottom of the second, however, the HiToms broke out the bats in earnest.

After Pete Guy (so., UNC-Asheville) walked to start the inning, outfielder Austin Crutcher (jr., Bellarmine) knocked a two-run homer to right field in his first at-bat as a HiTom. With the game tied at three and runners on the corners, Alec Paradowski (so., Wofford) smacked a two-run double to deep right field to give the HiToms a 5-3 lead. Two batters later Cody Brittain (so., USC-Upstate) hit a three-run shot to left field, his second homer in two days, to make the score 8-3. Then after two straight hits, Dale Urquhart (jr., Western Carolina) capped the nine-run inning with a two-run double to left field, giving the HiToms a 10-3 lead.

Martinsville first baseman Charlie Gould responded in the top of the third with a two-run home run to bring the Mustangs within five before the HiToms got two back in the bottom of the fourth inning, with one scoring on a Bradley Morton (jr., Appalachian State) RBI single. Then with two runners on and two out, a lightening delay and subsequent thunderstorm suspended the game.

The HiToms and Mustangs will resume the game tomorrow at 6pm in Martinsville. The already-scheduled matchup will become the second game of a seven-inning doubleheader.
