Elon Women’s Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule

ELON, N.C. – As his team begins its inaugural season in the Colonial Athletic Association, Elon University head women’s soccer coach Chris Neal announced his squad’s schedule for the upcoming 2014 campaign on Tuesday, June 17. Elon has eight home contests scheduled in 2014, including an August 29 home match against Clemson at Rudd Field.

“I couldn’t be more excited for the 2014 season to begin,” Neal said. “We have a strong non-conference schedule that will prepare us for a challenging first season in the Colonial Athletic Association. We’re looking forward to joining a very competitive league that is deep in talent and will challenge us every time out.”

Following a home exhibition match versus Liberty on Aug. 15, the Phoenix kicks off the regular season on Aug. 22 at home against Jacksonville State. Elon’s match versus JSU begins a three-match homestand that includes games against Appalachian State (Aug. 24) and the aforementioned Clemson Tigers (Aug. 29).

Elon’s first road test of the season is scheduled for Aug. 31 in Morgantown, W.Va., against the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Phoenix’s match at WVU begins a three-match road swing that includes games against in-state foes High Point (Sept. 5) and East Carolina (Sept. 7).

The following weekend, Elon treks to the beaches of Wilmington, N.C., for the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational. The Phoenix takes on Coastal Carolina (Sept. 12) and Francis Marion (Sept. 14) in the tournament.

The Phoenix plays its next three matches at home, including its CAA opener against Hofstra on Sept. 26. Prior to Elon’s game against Hofstra, the Phoenix takes on Gardner-Webb in its final non-conference game on Sept. 20. Elon concludes its three-match homestand on Sept. 28 against Northeastern.

Elon plays its next two matches on the road against College of Charleston (Oct. 5) and UNC Wilmington (Oct. 7). Elon’s game against the Seahawks on Oct. 7 marks Neal’s first regular season match against his alma mater as head coach of the Phoenix.

After two home matches against Drexel (Oct. 10) and Delaware (Oct. 12), the Phoenix wraps up the regular season with three straight road matches against William & Mary (Oct. 19), Towson (Oct. 24) and James Madison (Oct. 26).

The quarterfinals of the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship begin on Nov. 2 before the semifinals (Nov. 7) and finals (Nov. 9). All matches will be played on campus sites and hosted by the higher seeded team.
